Jessica Huddart and Monique Kneepkens developed Seven With Another in 2011 as a series of exhibitions In which fourteen artists from distant fields were paired to produce seven collaborative works. Each installment of Seven With Another challenged pairs to respond to the number of the episode in the series.
For Seven With Another V, digital visual effects artist Urs Furrer and I started with the five principle senses to create an environment where visitors' expectations might be unsettled.
Featuring a picture of Vesuvius rendered in salmon and prosciuttto, a rotating bouquet that smells of bacon, a hand that reaches from one chair and a second chair that emits the recorded voice of a child's doll when a visitor sits, a telephone that plays a conversation instead of a dial tone, and a visitors' book that records the hidden lives of guests, Wish You Were Here explores the transience, possibility and discarded intimacy felt in hotel lobbies, doctors' waiting rooms and funeral parlours.
