In Skin, I explored surface as the place where outside and inside meet. Using costume and the absent body, the works in this show expressed the way people take in and perform expectations based on family, gender and purity.
I used tissue paper in this show because it is a fragile and see-through, but surprisingly tough, form of wrapping. Tissue lends itself to folding and bending. As the medium traditionally used for dressmaking patterns, tissue also conveys the way costumes express hope and plans for the future as well as impermanence.
